Yankton, SD- Two local entities are partnering to bring community health educational opportunities to residents. Yankton Medical Clinic and Yankton Thrive are announcing a Lunch and Learn series focused on various health topics of importance to our community.
“This seemed like a natural fit for both our organizations. Yankton Thrive does a terrific job of offering various events for the public and our local workforce, while Yankton Medical Clinic is focused on educating the public on health issues to help them take an active role in their health,” said Kara Osborn, Director of Marketing, Yankton Medical Clinic. Becky Wiswall, Business Services Director of Yankton Thrive, agrees. “Yankton Thrive is always looking for opportunities for our local workforce and public that will truly benefit them. A health series is just one more opportunity we can offer.”
The first Lunch and Learn will be held on leap day, February 29th, and will cover heart health topics for February’s heart month. “We’re leaping into a healthy lifestyle, beginning with learning about heart health,” Osborn says. The event at the Thrive location begins at 12:10pm. “We purposely chose 12:10pm so people will have time to get there and not miss any of the presentations,” Osborn said. “And along with that,” Wiswall added, “we’ll be done by 12:50pm so you will be able to get back to work on time.”
This informal gathering encourages people to bring their lunch, grab a friend and make it a lunch date. February’s topics include Dr. Susan Fanta, Board Certified, Internal Medicine, Yankton Medical Clinic, presenting on Blood Pressure and self-management. There will also be presentations from Yankton Medical Clinic staff on CPR Refresher Tips and Heart Healthy Recipes/Quick Meal ideas.
Wiswall concluded, “Bring your lunch and join us on leap day as we gather together to hear from medical experts on health topics important to us all.”
