Yankton, SD — Dr. Scott Weber, DO, FAAFP, a Family Medicine Physician at Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C., was recently honored with the Edward J. Batt, M.D. Memorial Teaching Award by the Sanford School of Medicine (SSOM) at the University of South Dakota. The award presentation, given as a surprise, took place at the Yankton Medical Clinic and was led by Dr. Jacob Prunuske, Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at SSOM. Joining the celebration was Dr. Weber’s colleagues, clinic staff, and his wife Jo, his son Alec, and granddaughters Marie, Zelie, and Clare.
The Batt Award is presented annually to a physician who has held an appointment in the SSOM Department of Family Medicine for at least three years and demonstrates outstanding commitment to medical education. Recipients must actively teach in one or more clerkships, or courses, and consistently receive high evaluations from both students and faculty. Additional criteria include offering elective clerkships, contributing service to SSOM, and engaging in professional medical society activities.
Dr. Weber currently serves as a Clinical Professor at the Sanford School of Medicine and maintains a full-time practice in family and sports medicine at Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C.
Established in 1978 in memory of Dr. Edward J. Batt, the award recognizes excellence in family medicine teaching. Dr. Batt was a dedicated family physician in Sisseton, SD, where he and his wife Anne raised their 12 children. He joined the medical school in Sioux Falls in 1976 and contributed significantly to the family medicine residency program before his passing.
