Audiologist Attends Convention in Arizona

Audiologist Jason R. Howe, M.S., FAAA, CCC-A of Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C.  recently attended the American Auditory Society Scientific and Technical Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.  This meeting is designed for audiologists, neurologists, neurotologists, otolaryngologists, oto-neurologists, scientists and students in these respected areas interested in hearing, hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus and hearing aids.

Topics included:  Efficacy of remotely fine-tuning hearing aids via smartphone apps; Hearing aids and heartbeats:  monitoring blood pressure through a multi-function hearing aids; Modifiable correlates of hearing loss and specific aspects of cognition; Evidence of conditioning in preventing synaptopathy; Cortical correlates of hearing aid processing in older hearing-impaired listeners; Screening for newborn autism spectrum disorder using auditory brainstem responses; Auditory, metabolic, and neuropsychological aspects of blast-induced tinnitus in humans; Modulation transfer function of the human efferent system; The offset auditory brainstem response in the bottlenose dolphin; DNA repair is an endogenous cochlear defense; A new look at modeling auditory cortical processing; Results from the multichannel vestibular implant study; Use of electrocochleography to determine electrode location in the cochlear; and the correlation of hearing loss and depressive symptoms in older adults.
