Safety first! That was the message all second-grade students received today at an assembly at Jolley Elementary School. Today marked the 23rd annual bike helmet giveaway sponsored by Vermillion Medical Clinic and the Vermillion Rotary Club. Each second-grade student in Vermillion learned about bike safety and received a new helmet.
The highlight of the day was when pediatrician, Dr. Matthew Krell, used a watermelon to demonstrate to the students what can happen to their head when left unprotected. While overly dramatic, the point hit home. Special thanks to the volunteers from Vermillion EMS, Kopetsky’s Ace Hardware, Yankton, and Vermillion Rotary for fitting the helmets for each student.
