Yankton County Search & Rescue and Yankton Medical Clinic Join Forces to Host Children’s Life Jacket Giveaway

Yankton, SD- May is National Water Safety Month. In celebration, Yankton County Search and Rescue (YCSAR) has teamed up with Yankton Medical Clinic (YMC) to provide youth life jackets to local families, free of charge. This event will take place on Thursday, May 15th, at Riverside Park in Yankton, SD, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Dr. Martha Holstein, MD, FACP, FAAP, Internal Medicine and Pediatric physician at YMC said, “The physicians at Yankton Medical Clinic care deeply about the health and safety of our community. We want to watch your families thrive and enjoy the beautiful waters around Yankton. There is an average of 10 fatal drownings per day and 22 non-fatal drownings per day nationwide. Drowning remains the second leading causes of unintentional injury-related death from 5-15 years old. As local physicians, we understand the importance of teaching children water safety at an early age. We are pleased to help.”

In addition to picking up one of the 300 new life jackets, local families can also enjoy a hot dog, chips and refreshments with Search and Rescue team members and staff from Yankton Medical Clinic. You can also take part in educational activities, learn more about water safety with the Yankton County Search and Rescue members and the Yankton Medical Clinic staff will be there to discuss water safety.
