Yankton, SD —Yankton Medical Clinic Physician Michael Pietila, M.D., FCCP, FACP, Board Certified Pulmonary, Critical Care and Internal Medicine, was nominated and selected for the 2024 South Dakota American College of Physicians Award for Volunteerism.
According to the American College of Physicians (ACP), the award is bestowed upon a member who has initiated or been involved in volunteer programs or provided exemplary volunteer service. Dr. Pietila is a fellow with the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians. He graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Pietila completed his residency and fellowships at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is Board Certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Internal Medicine and has been with the Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. since 2006. He is Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Director for Critical Care, Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine services at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital and a former Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Dr. Pietila is a Clinical Professor and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. He is a proud graduate of South Dakota State University where he serves on the Board of Consultors for the College of Natural Sciences and is an avid Jackrabbit fan.
