Yankton Medical Clinic Reminds Patients to Check Benefits

Yankton, SD—The world of healthcare is oftentimes intimidating. Add health insurance and it can, at times, be overwhelming. At YMC, patient education remains a high priority including helping patients with all facets of their healthcare decisions, including their health insurance.
Amy Anderson, Business Office Supervisor at Yankton Medical Clinic, sees it often. “We empathize with our patients as health insurance can be confusing and overwhelming.”  She continues, “I have three words that though simple, can truly make a difference in your out-of-pocket expense—Check Your Benefits.”
YMC encourages everyone to do just that at the beginning of every year. For instance, many services done in an office setting such as YMC may cost you less than if you have the same service done in an outpatient setting at a hospital. Amy says, “We find that is often the case. Patients will check their benefits and sure enough, an X-ray, CT scan, MRI or even a blood draw, laboratory test, or others, will only require a co-pay in our clinic, versus paying a higher cost of a deductible if done as an outpatient setting in a hospital.”
Amy added, “We try to help our patients save on healthcare expense by encouraging them to be proactive and checking on their benefits. After all, we are patients too and we understand how important it is to save on medical expense wherever possible.” Checking your benefits is easy. There is a phone number on your insurance card. Insurance companies appreciate policy owners checking on their benefits before having a service performed. “It really is a win-win for patients,” concluded Amy.
