Yankton, SD —Dr. April Willman, Pediatrics, Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. was presented the 2025 Kindness Initiative Award from the USD Sanford School of Medicine Pediatrics Department.
Nominated by several medical students, Dr. Willman exemplifies the true meaning of the Kindness Initiative at the School of Medicine.
According to USD SSOM’s website, “The Kindness Initiative integrates “kindness” into education, culture and strategy, recognizing it as a crucial element in healing and happiness. Integrated into the school’s program and culture in 2022, USD SSOM the initiative aims to embed kindness throughout the curriculum, emphasizing its importance for future healthcare professionals. The process involves qualitative research, student input and careful planning to ensure effective integration.”
USD SSOM’s website further explains by stating, “Addressing the shortage of compassion in medical care, the Sanford School of Medicine’s kindness initiative seeks to restore the compassionate outlook that many medical students start with but often lose during their careers. This effort not only benefits patients but also enhances the well-being of physicians. By prioritizing kindness, the medical school envisions healthier physicians and improved patient outcomes.”
Dr. Willman is a Pediatrician with Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C., serves as Associate Dean, SSOM Yankton Campus, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Pediatrics Department.
