Yankton's Best Team for Fighting Breast Disease.

The fight against breast disease begins with regular screenings. To that goal, Yankton Medical Clinic is pleased to announce the addition of 3-D digital mammography for our patients. However, digital mammograms aren't the only solution - they need to be read by a board certified radiologist with proven experience and competence in interpreting them. Continuity of care continues with one of our board certified surgeons reviewing scans and biopsy results, and then meeting with the patient to direct the right care plan. When necessary our oncology team steps in to offer expertise as well as compassion. We're fighting breast disease with the best physician team available in the area - human beings committed to leadership in their specialty, and leaders in your care.

The Truth About Breast Cancer

It is estimated that a woman's lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is one in eight.

According to the American Cancer Society, in 2004, over 215,000 new cases of breast cancer will occur in the United States, and over 400,000 women are expected to die from this disease.

Mammography is the most effective method of screening for breast cancer and can lead to early detection, which is the key to higher survival rates, better prognosis, and lower treatment costs.

Computer Aided Detection

Our commitment to screenings and early detection for our patients is a priority. That's why Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. has added the newest FDA approved technology in breast imaging analysis to all routine mammograms.

The Computer Aided Detection (CAD) system assists radiologists by digitizing and analyzing mammograms for suspicious regions that may be indicative of cancer. It's use could provide over 23% greater detection of breast cancers than older systems.

The image checker system is the first FDA-approved computer-aided detection (CAD) system for mammography. This revolutionary technology assists your doctor in the reading of your mammogram, pointing out areas of interest that might otherwise go undetected.

3-D digital mammography detects 40% more invasive breast cancer, and reduces recall rates by 40%.

The ImageChecker® Solution

The ImageChecker system is a CAD system that analyzes medical images using proprietary software that highlights areas that contain features associated with cancer.

The ImageChecker system acts like a "spell-checker" for medical images, performing over one billion calculations per film. It is designed to assist radiologists in reducing the number of false-negative readings by drawing attention to areas that warrant a second review.

The resulting reduction in observational oversights aids radiologists with earlier detection of breast cancers.
